I ended up buying this product because of the reviews posted here. So I thought I would help the next person choose since I got such a good deal. This product was shipped about as fast as anything could be.
I am very impressed and pleased with this bow. It is lightweight and does everything it should for the price. One thing I was leery of was the review that talked about how hard this bow was to string. Well, I don't know if I am gifted or not at stringing bows, but I soon had the string on with virtually no problem at all. A 10 year-old child could do it the way I did, providing he does more with the muscles on his arms than play pc games. It is just a matter of knowing how to do it. Here is what you do:
After you have it all clamped together, put your left foot in stirrup (or whatever that thing is called) and take a piece of firewood, 5 or 6" high and lay the left side of the bow on this. Put the string on the right side of the bow. With your right hand pull up on the right side of the bow to bend it back. You will take note at this point of the simple leverage that is going on. Place the other end of the string on the left side. And relax. That's all there is to it.
I was also pleased to get a scope and the laser thrown in for this price. I had no trouble at all mounting them. The arrows included are just to get you started. I used a bail of straw and a cardboard target for sighting in at 20 yards. These small 16" cheap arrows are not the best thing to use if you want to see the real accuracy of this thing. 20 yards were the max.
This is a great starter crossbow, but for anyone serious about hunting big game, unless you were 10 yards from the game and knew you could get a clean shot to the lungs or heart, I wouldn't use it. You really need a compound bow for the bigger stuff, IMO.
I have not tried this bow with better arrows. Either way, it is no toy and is a serious weapon.
To save your cheapy arrows, use a little Gorilla glue on the joints and even on the feathers. Makes them last a lot longer. Same thing with the string. After several shots you will see the ends of the string and where the shaft sits start to unravel. Tighten the wrapped outer string back like it was and apply a little Gorilla glue. You will be amazed how much longer they last. And I use a bar of old soap to keep the beam and string well slicked. Works great.
The only other thing I would recommend is that after you shoot is several times, re-tighten all the screws and bolts.
Also, don't expect bulls-eye accuracy. This is a bow and arrow, not a rifle.
Hope this helps.
ps. The cheapy red arrows are the same as the more expensive ones, as noted by someone else.
